I really wanted to title a chapter, The Shit Will Hit the Fan, in my book, The Busy Woman’s Guide to Writing a World-Changing Book. I also had a penis joke to include; both of these I decided to keep to myself. 😜
But here’s what I know from all my years of writing and coaching writers: There is no ‘normal’ week. Inevitably, the shit will hit the fan, scattering our carefully laid writing plans to the wind.
This is why committing ourselves to a weekly structure (such as writing every day from 1 - 2 pm) rarely holds longer than a fortnight. We fall off our schedule, feel inept and frustrated, and churn needlessly before just getting back on track.
January brought a flurry of shitstorms to my life. An ambulance ride to the emergency room,😮 a shocking voicemail from a friend, 😵💫 the results of a lot of testing I had done to be proactive about my health 🥺 put me in a sort of emotional stupor. Don’t worry, everything is okay, but as you know, life has its way of being more complex than we want.
It would have been so easy to give myself a pass and not work on my novel. But I didn’t, and without bullying or forcing myself, somehow a miracle happened.
