As I get ready to go to Lisbon and Paris, I notice my focus diminish. There are so many things to think about! I am working my way steadily through my work tasks.
Before I go on a trip, I like to leave things in order. I’ve designed my work life so there is time in the studio writing and working with clients and time in the world working with clients. When I am leading a writing or creativity retreat, I don’t spend much time at the computer. This balance keeps me sane.
I use trips as handy deadlines for my novel, too. I am still working toward getting this draft done-ish before I leave. I will be away for a month, and want to be able to resume work easily when I return.
I set myself up with two of my major tools for maintaining momentum, even when focus is disrupted. I use these again and again, and teach them to my clients: the punch list and the insertion point.
